Foster

Foster families are an integral part of our life-saving program. We rely on dedicated foster homes for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens who are not quite ready for adoption, need medical treatment or just need a break from shelter life. Fostering is fun and free! We provide all of the supplies you need, you provide the love.

If you’ve been missing a furry friend in your life but aren’t ready to adopt, becoming a temporary foster home is a perfect solution! Foster families provide much needed socialization time for our animals and have more time to learn each individual animal’s personality which helps us place them in the perfect forever home when they return to our shelter.

HSNCF provides:

  • Pet food, bowls, collar and leashes, litter boxes, crates or carriers, towels or blankets, toys and any additional supplies.
  • All veterinary care, including an after-hours emergency line.
  • Support, training and follow-up care.

Foster home provides:

  • A safe, loving environment.
  • Transportation to and from HSNCF for booster appointments, vet checks, or adoption events.
  • Reports on health and behavior traits to help place them in the perfect future home.

Fostering for Volunteer Hours?

If you need volunteer hours for school, fostering a pet is a great way to earn those hours. Here are awarded by amount and animal type:

  • 2 hours/day for 1-3 kittens or cats
  • 4 hours/day for 4+ kittens or cats
  • 6 hours/day for bottle baby kittens
  • 3 hours/day for 1-3 puppies or dogs
  • 5 hours/day for 4+ puppies or dogs
  • 7 hours/day for bottle baby puppies

Get started by completing the steps below:

  1. Complete our volunteer application form. This is not the same as the foster application and will allow us to track your hours in our volunteer database. Apply Here. NOTE: You must complete the volunteer application and two additional forms to activate your account.
  2. Once you have completed the application and forms, you will receive an automated email explaining volunteer orientation. If you only plan on fostering for volunteer hours you may disregard this email.
  3. Email volunteer@humanesocietyncfl.org to notify us that you have created an account and would like to receive volunteer hours for fostering pets.
  4. Foster volunteer hours must be manually added to your volunteer account on a regular basis. You should regularly reach out to the volunteer department at the email address listed above to have your hours updated. The volunteer department may take 24-48 hours to update your profile so please be sure to reach out well in advance of when your hours are due. Thank you for fostering!
