Volunteer help at the Alachua County Humane Society is integral to the success of the organization. Without volunteer help we would be unable to save as many animals as we do. This makes volunteers an invaluable asset. Please click on the link below to view a volunteer application.
Volunteering for the Alachua County Humane Society is both an exciting and ever changing experience. By choosing to help save the lives of Alachua County’s homeless animals, you empower the community, our staff and yourself. We hope that our furry friends’ kisses, snuggles, and warmth will be a great reward for all your hard efforts! Volunteer Application Volunteer Information Center (VIC) - for current volunteers Here are several diverse ways in which you can make a difference through volunteering with ACHS:
Animal Care: We are always in need of compassionate hands to help care for our furry friends. Typical duties might include dog walking, cat cuddling, grooming, animal care giving, or adoption advocate to name a few.
Events: ACHS participates in many large community events throughout the year. We need volunteers to help set up and break down temporary structures, transport animals, sell merchandise, answer customer questions, and maintain the adoption area during these fun occasions. Adopt-a-thons and other such events help us to reach the public and place more of our animals in permanent homes.
Administrative Support: We have a variety of administrative tasks that need to be done to keep our organization running, including, but not limited to: placing flyers, making brochures, delivering items to area businesses, typing letters, making phone calls and filing records. If you would love to help animals without a direct, “hands on” experience, don’t worry. We’re looking for people just like you as well.
Gardening: Our facility is in need of some landscaping, so if you’ve got a green thumb (or would like to work on getting one) you’re more than welcome to come and mow the grass, trim trees and shrubs, plant flowers, and generally help beautify our grounds,
Thrift Store: If you like to shop, our Thrift and Gift Shop may be the perfect place for you. We are always in need of people willing to pick up donated items, deliver un-needed items to other charities, and assist in the sorting, pricing and selling of the items in our store.
Facility Maintenance: We have all sorts of do-it-yourself projects for handy men and women that will give our facility more storage room and create a more pleasant environment for adopters to get to know their pet companions. Whether you have your own tool belt or not, if you like building and/or fixing things, we could use your help.
These are just a few of the areas in which we need volunteers. Just because something isn’t on the list, doesn’t mean we couldn’t use your help. We’re always open to your suggestions and ideas about how to make both ACHS and your experience here better.
