What We Do... advocacy and rehabilitation of homeless and neglected animals | | Oscar, adopted in 2005 was found in a dumpster behind a local bar. He was full of fleas, ticks, and malnourished. He quickly became a staff favorite! After a month of TLC Oscar was ready for his new family! |
In 2006 the Humane Society transferred more than 1000 animals from Animal Services (the county shelter). More than 85% of the animals we transferred needed rehabilitation. We make a promise to each and every animal brought in to our adoption program to see them through their treatments, rehabilitation, and adoption into a loving home. Rehabilitation is an expensive and time consuming process, but one we find is well worth our efforts. From broken bones, to terrible and debilitating infections our staff and volunteers are dedicated to making sure that every effort is exhausted in the treatment and rehabilitation of our furry friends. Heartwarming stories, and amazing recoveries are a part of every day life at the Humane Society. We hope that you, as an animal-loving, part of our community will support our efforts. For more than 35 years we have been advocates and protectors of our community's pet companions, but these efforts simply can not continue without your support. The average cost for each animal we take in is $350. This means that most animals we adopt out represent a substantial financial loss. Adoptions and rehabilitation is only made possible by the support of our members, volunteers, Thrift, Gift, and Pet Supply shoppers, and corporate support. You don't have to be rich to support animal rescue and rehabilitation, every penny counts! As the lead agency for Maddie's Pet Rescue Project of Alachua County we are aiming (and well on our way to) eliminating the euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs within our community and with YOUR help we can do it! If you have found a stray animal or have to give up a pet please contact Animal Services at 352-264-6870. Please take a few moments to browse our site, we welcome feedback or questions! The Humane Society is a non-profit 501-(3)c organization and donations are generally tax deductible! |
