Volunteer
At the Alachua County Humane Society, volunteers are integral to the success of the organization. Without them, we would be unable to save as many animals as we do.
Here are a few of the ways you can make a difference by volunteering with us:
Animal Care: Typical duties include walking dogs, cuddling cats, grooming, caring for our animals and advocating adoption.
Events: As we participate in many community events throughout the year to reach the public and find more permanent homes for our animals, we need volunteers to help set up and break down temporary structures, transport animals, sell merchandise, answer customer questions and maintain the adoption areas.
Administrative Support: We have a variety of administrative tasks that need to be done to keep our organization running, such as: placing fliers, making brochures, delivering items to area businesses, typing letters, making phone calls and filing records.
Gardening: Our facility is in need of some landscaping, so if you’ve got a green thumb (or would like to work on getting one) you’re more than welcome to come and mow the grass, trim trees and shrubs, plant flowers and help beautify our grounds.
Thrift Store: We are always in need of people willing to pick up donated items, deliver un-needed items to other charities and assist in the sorting, pricing and selling of the items in our thrift store.
Facility Maintenance: We have all sorts of projects for handy men and women that will give our facility more storage room and create a more pleasant environment for adopters to get to know their pet companions.
These are just a few of the areas in which we need volunteers. Just because something isn’t on the list, doesn’t mean we couldn’t use your help. We’re always open to your suggestions and ideas about how to make both ACHS and your experience here better.
